There may be no better known name of the organization that comes to mind when we think about public service from Habitat for Humanity. This is an organization that does not see the poverty of the world or reach out to those less fortunate just as the subject of speech. Habitat for Humanity really put their backs into the mission of helping the less fortunate, one house at a time.
There is no doubt that high profile “celebrity” who has worked on Habitat for Humanity has done much to raise awareness of the public service is not good organizations in communities across the nation and around the world. President Jimmy Carter’s tireless work with Habitat for Humanity has left us with even more powerful image of his leadership than perhaps he left us when he completed his term as President.
But they never pictures of the former president enjoys high respect in Hollywood admirer of Washington or dinner to raise money for a purpose. No, the picture President Carter worked with Habitat for Humanity is a picture that anyone involved with this issue will be remembered. They will remember the images of dozens of helpful citizens, of all ages, races, beliefs and backgrounds, working together with the sleeves rolled up to build a house for a neighbor, even if the neighbor is a half around the world.
Considering that the mission of Habitat for Humanity is driven by the call to build houses for people in need, one house at a time, the numbers of their success really surprised. In 2005 their numbers, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 200,000 houses around the world and their houses have been providing safe, clean, affordable shelter for more than one million poor people. No wonder, because each of the new owners of Habitat for Humanity home to see their new home beautiful, they call the universal work of Habitat for Humanity “miracle.”
Organizational systems that use the Habitat for Humanity is a model to help those less fortunate but avoid the pitfalls that often occur when a government agency to give handouts. Future owners of a Habitat house into a deal to work shoulder to shoulder with volunteers who are building their houses to invest “sweat equity” into the house. These investments build pride and a sense of ownership. But along with the benefits, needs a new home owner the same and add them to the army of workers who will turn around and go out and help build another home for someone like him who could use a hand to help buy a house where their families can live.
This is a small miracle of Habitat for Humanity was awarded the Presidential Metal of Freedom in 1996, the highest civilian honor the government can provide. When this metal gift, President Clinton said that Habitat for Humanity is “… the most successful community service projects are sustainable in the history of the United States.”. Truly phenomenal and the “magical” motion like Habitat for Humanity does not go unnoticed as we saw when President Carter, a tireless worker for Habitat for Humanity, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to continue working on behalf of the disadvantaged in society us and around the world.
Thousands of people have flocked to work with others in the Habitat for Humanity to build homes of their neighbors. Christian ecumenical movement is, independent of government financing, non-profit and completely driven by volunteer army. But have really is an example of how communities can come together to help others for pleasure merely community service.
